His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin. He shall die for lack of instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

Proverbs 5:22-23

God hates sin because it is contrary to His Holy characteristic and because sin is the works of the devil. Sin originates from lies and in it, there’s no truth. The absence of truth is what the devil desires (John 8:44). God pictures sin as wounds and bruises and putrefying sores (Isaiah 1:6), as a heavy burden (Psalm 38:4), as defiled (Titus 1:15), like scarlet stains (Isaiah 1:18) and as darkness (1 John 1:6).

The consequences of sin leads to pride (James 4:6), hypocrisy (Matthew 23:25-28), disobedience (2 Corinthians 10:6), fleshly desires (Romans 8:7-8), self-sufficiency (2 Corinthians 3:5), loving the world (1 John 2:15) and the worse among them, sin leads us to separation from God (Genesis 3:23-24, Isaiah 59:1-3).

Sin is so problematic that Jesus Himself cautioned those who deliberately caused others to sin (Matthew 18:6) and He also gave stern warnings against those who taught others as though God’s commandments could be taken lightly (Matthew 5:19-20).

Make no mistake, that these are the words from the Lord Himself. And the Bible is clear and it teaches us that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Unless we understand why God is so resentful towards sin and unless we know how grave sin is a matter to God, we will not be able to proceed beyond reason or to further from the purpose to be in the state of Godly sorrow in the first place.

Sin is essentially, an effort on our part that is in opposition to God. Sin is evil. All sin no matter how insignificant is evil and adverse to God.

What Must We Do

Pray and ask the Holy Spirit for Wisdom; pray and ask Him to explain why sin is such a serious matter to God, why God hates sin, why God’s justice requires punishment for sin and why Christ Himself is necessary to die because of our sins.
