Reading Time: 3 minutes

When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

Revelation 6:7-8

This post is not going to be easy to stomach. Among all the seven seals, the fourth one talks about widespread death on earth and to discuss this topic during a time when the people in the world are already experiencing what Christ Himself termed as walking in the shadows of death, is not going to be welcoming. But I never said it will be easy. Hard or easy is not on the top of my list of concerns, but the truth is.

So, if you are faint-hearted, I do not suggest you continue reading this post. Unless if you are determined and brave enough to face the facts and the Bible truth.

Jesus Himself said clearly, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30. The Lord Himself clarified that to do His will is easier than to be enslaved in sin.

The notion by men that it is difficult to obey God or to do His will, stems from the constant illusion that we deliberately force on our own thinking. It is we who block ourselves from opportunities to do what is right and good. As fallen men, we are so at home with sin that any slightest suggestion to move towards the light, seems awfully painful.

At the point of being told to become righteous, our stubbornness will turn such suggestion to appear like some impossible to achieve, rocket science feat. It is the blockade and barriers we deliberately build, separating ourselves from God’s holiness and refusal to give up the pleasures of sin, that is hard and difficult.

To be righteous is not difficult. But to give up sin is. And the believers out there who were never trained by their church leaders to fear God, will not find it easy to understand how this works. Thus, these same group of people will shun prophetic warnings and particularly, avoid reading the entire book of Revelation altogether. The Lord Himself said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3

Unless we start putting down our old guard, surrender our self-righteousness, give up what we thought we are doing is right, and unless we become like little children and start relearning God’s ways, we will never set foot on the narrow roads to His Kingdom (Matthew 7:14). Due to blindness caused by falsehood and deception, most would prefer to stay on the perceptibly easy path that leads to destruction. And the fourth seal is about this coming destruction, on those who chose the easy paths of carnal men.

Revelation 6:8 is clear as crystal. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

To say power is given to them over a fourth of the earth, is no less than to say authority is going to be given to a group people called “them” and these men will have the power to take away the lives of those whom God had decided to surrender into their hands. This would be the ultimate definition of evildoers being abandoned into the hands of other evil men (Psalm 125:5). Or that those who chose to live by the sword, shall perish by the sword (Matthew 26:52).

And statistically, one quarter of the world equals to quite a lot of people. If you knew you had little time left, what would you do? Repent, if there is still time, repent while you are still breathing. Nothing else in this world is profitable to any man if he is about to lose his own soul. Mark 8:36
