From that time JESUS began to preach and to say, “REPENT, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 4:17

In fact, Christ Himself made the call for repentance, in His own words (Matthew 4:17). And the Bible is full of various verses pointing to the need for repentance.

REPENT therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord … (Acts 3:19)

He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. (Proverbs 28:13)

Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, (Matthew 3:8)

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to REPENTANCE. (2 Peter 3:9)

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8)

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. (Revelation 3:19)

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who REPENTS than over ninety-nine [a]just persons who need no repentance. (Luke 15:7)

For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32)

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to REPENT, (Acts 17:30)

and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. REPENT, and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)

I tell you, no; but unless you REPENT you will all likewise perish. (Luke 13:3)

Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who REPENTS.” (Luke 15:10)

Then Peter said to them, “REPENT, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

Turn at my REBUKE; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. (Proverbs 1:28)

Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.” (Luke 17:3-4)
